Thinking about the games and how did the old builders allow people to respawn? Like it’s not just the contestants but also those who just arrived like Lukas so how? I kinda have a few theories:
1) Modified respawn anchors but that requires refuelling every now and then
2) A dollop of admin powers. The old builders obviously don’t have it but somehow they managed to harness a fraction of it to cheat death
3) The world the portal hallway is in allows for respawn and when people enter a certain vicinity of it they respawn at that area. The old builders manage to study and figure out where they would respawn and build around it
4) A command block. Somewhere deep in the place is a command block that allows people who enter it’s vicinity to respawn
What do you think?
Oh wow- never expected to receive such an interesting question! Good job, dear Anon.
So, it actually depends on if we're talking about my silly Complex AU or canon. You didn't specify, so I'm gonna do both just to be sure you got the answer you wanted:)
|Canon|
You actually have two good points there: it's either a command block or a natural respawn.
Command block: probably the way developers thought about it. Let's look at it through all the episodes we have! It's pretty obvious Soren either was an Old Builder or at least had some connection to them, since we see his books everywhere, even in Fred's house if I remember correctly! Isa's palace also has Soren's books, but how does it prove anything?
It's rather simple: Soren had an access to all those places and worlds, which means he should've had a flint and steal. No way he found it back in Jesse's world because as we know Portal was unactivated when the main group arrived there.
We all know Harper had a Redstone Heart and Game's Trio had an Atlas, but where could've such powerful items come from? Since Hadrian is aware of what Redstone Heart is, I'm gonna guess they got it when Harper was part of the team. We also know for sure Eversource aka Benedict and White Pumpkin are not something common. Someone had to create it and I doubt Admins did it.
So what? Simple: Soren was an Old Builder or at least had connection with them and he had a command block, which allowed them to experiment with different mechanics and create what they created: Redstone Heart, Atlas, Eversource and White pumpkins.
Which means they probably also messed with spawn system and figure out that you can not only spawn, but also respawn. Next step: they went to the random most common world and set worldspawn at some special coordinates, allowing themselves to built Games.
Natural spawn: that's way easier! As you said, they probably noticed someone respawning and built Games there. I'm gonna take a shot here and say that one of them probably died and respawned, that's the way they figure it! Simple theory but still interesting. Which means Jesse's world also has a respawn somewhere or only a few worlds can have such thing (including Cassie's Rose world since we saw Sparklez alive and I want to believe he did respawn somewhere).
Also interesting theory: maybe each world has it's owns "settings on difficulty": easy, normal, hard and hardcore. Then Jesse's world probably has hardcore turned on, while world where Games are has easy, normal or even hard. But it raises questions like who did this settings, how and ect.
|Complex AU|
If you ever read my posts, you know that in this AU a whole ass God exists.
Mr. Complex and his horrible job!
Their favorite way to get things done is actually simple: "Have this somehow very strong object what does something. What it does? Idk idc figure out yourself."
To avoid lots of spoilers: there are certain spots in each world, where you can actually build a respawn system and it will work! But you need to have a special knowledge of magic that respawn system uses in case to turn it on. Someone from Old Builders have this knowledge and that way theybuilt the system in Games!
No more info because I don't want to spoiler too much.
I hope this answered your question, Anon! Thanks for stopping by:)

(Obligatory "I sound like I'm speaking objectively from authority but this is just my opinion and it's okay for you to like media I dislike for whatever reasons you may have")
Okay so like. while "the minecraft move trailer is so bad that it makes minecraft story mode look good in comparison" is both true and funny, can we please not start pretending that story mode is a well-crafted piece of media. as someone who has played through it multiple times (first when it originally came out and I was 12 and thought it was awesome, then later as an interactive Netflix experience with friends for so-bad-it's-good reasons) I feel pretty qualified to say it blows
Like, yes. There are so many things that MCSM got right that the movie apparently got wrong. But, like, they're all extremely common-sense things to get right -- like having the whole thing be animated, and maintaining a visual style that feels consistent with minecraft, and spending time with individual aspects of the minecraft experience that have their own communities (like redstone contraptions). that sense seems a little less common now that the movie trailer exists, but still, these are all bare minimum expectations of a piece of narrative-driven media set in Minecraft.
MCSM still completely fails, however, to have any compelling characters (RIP Reuben you were just as annoying as everyone else) or non-grating dialogue. The universe they depict isn't even well thought out! Like, okay, example:
Right off the bat, they make a big decision about how they're going to handle MCSM: they are not telling a story about people playing Minecraft the video game, but are instead depicting a universe where Minecraft is inhabited by a civilization of NPCs that have identical abilities to a player (aside from like, pausing the game or changing settings or what have you). This, in itself, is not a bad decision, but it puts the writers in a position where they need to conceptualize what is effectively a Minecraft AU. You're not playing survival mode or creative mode, you're playing Story mode. In this AU, humans exist in the minecraft world and have for a long time (centuries, at least?), they've built cities, they have language, etc. Imagine you're Jesse. Imagine you've grown up inside of Minecraft. Everyone is playing on hardcore, there is no respawning, and you live in a world filled with strange and dangerous creatures that seem hell-bent on killing you. Why the Fuck does anyone go out at night. Why isn't literally everyone combat-trained. Why is Jesse acting like he's never seen a Creeper before. Why is Petra the only member of the main party who knows how to craft a pickaxe.
At the build competition, the party is surprised that the reigning building team has a beacon. But nobody takes a second to actually investigate what that means. Did their team intentionally spawn and defeat a Wither? Doesn't that make them more badass and legendary than the order of the stone? Is there a black market for nether stars? (I think Petra is probably the one who gave them the beacon since she also trades Ivan a Wither skull. But like. Why isn't literally anyone else just going and doing what Petra does. Why aren't they impressed)
Ivan having access to a Command Block is also insane. Like, it has potential to be an extremely cool choice -- did Ivan find a way to break the fourth wall? Did he find an exploit in Minecrafts code that allowed him to obtain this? The command block has the power to just generate resources out of thin air. Ivan could actually use it to become a god and give himself creative mode. But okay, we can assume that the command block is just... Different, in the AU. Fine. It's a computing center / power core for the Wither Storm. Sure
But, like. I, even as an 11 year old, knew everything there was to know about minecraft when I played story mode (and, unlike the Movie, MCSM was actually attempting to appeal to the existing fanbase), so watching these characters who have lived for DECADES within the Minecraft universe just. Be helpless and completely clueless as to how the universe works? It makes me hate like all of them. I don't care about Jesse or Gabriel and if I actually had the freedom to perform the basic actions I could perform in Minecraft -- mining, building, and crafting -- I could use my game knowledge to pretty swiftly end the entire conflict at like any point in the story. And I'm not very good at video games. But I would expect a character who's been LIVING IN THE MINECRAFT WORLD TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT. BECAUSE THEY'D BE BETTER AT MINECRAFT THAN ANY OF US.
The whole thing is a contrived and buggy mess that feels like it was written by a Hollywood CEO who watched someone play the game for 30 minutes, looked up some basic information like how to beat the game and whether there's any in-game lore, and then riffed on that until a script outline was finished. The programmers, visual artists, and composers clearly did a ton of work to make MCSM feel like minecraft. And they did a good job -- clearly, a much better job than the Movie is going to do. But that doesn't change the fact that the Story -- the focal element advertised in the title -- completely misses the fucking mark and centers around a group of characters who are largely incompetent and stupid in an unfunny and uninteresting way. MCSM was a shitty cashgrab by telltale games and I am not apologizing to it.
#I know very little about the fanmade remake that's in production#But I am open to the idea of it being good#I hope they change the story to an appropriate extent so it's actually bearable#But even if it's just an audiovisual remaster with the same shit plot and dialogue I will still watch and support the project#Because it seems like such a labor of love and because I'm interested in how different it will be#minecraft#minecraft movie#minecraft story mode#rant post#media critique

Don’t Leave Me Alone Here
( MCSM + ISAT … )
YAYYYY I FINISHED THIS
ok. basic explanation: combined two fixations together
LONGER VERSION!: THESE redraws were made for @wafflfruut after they were rambling and telling me how before respawning during s1 ep8, Jesse, Lukas, and Petra (ivor too but shh) would go into some sort of purgatory, which is HEAVILY inspired by the MAL DU PAYS fight from In Stars And Time (good game go play it…) so earlier today i thought HEY! WHY DONT I DRAW THESE GUYS OVER THE MDP FIGHT SPRITES! and well look at that ITS DONE
anyyways HERES SPRITE CLOSE UPS + MORE UNDER THE CUT
AND THE OG SCREENSHOT
also listen to the song for this fight its really good i promise

Mcsm headcanons!!!
Lukas is gay :) And has his right ear pierced!
Both Jesse's are trans and nonbinary! He/they and she/they, just in the opposite ways!!
Petra is bisexual with a female lean.
Radar is autistic...
Romeo has narcissism and destructive bpd!
Aiden just has bipolar and takes anger management!
Xara has a terrible chainsmoking habit, but she works out every morning before helping rebuild the underneath. Also her admin designs in her skin scarred her human form!
oh, oh, and if Jesse ever like.. died died eith no respawn, I think they would build Jesse's memorial around Reuben's so it's a walk-in memorial. And, a large statue of the duo together , after all this time.
Instead of " holy heavens " or " holy hell " its " holy aether " and " holy nether "

i don't know what compelled me to do this but here's a list of how mcsm incorporated and expanded on elements from the game and mc community!!!
along with aspects of how mcsm was written that i really like!!!!
allot of the following will be taken either from things i noticed in the game itself and things the head writer @/stirpicus's blog from like. years ago
so first of all, i love the direction they went with in mcsm. for the time it was made, you'd think they'd make something relating to Alex and Steve and even herobrine, or even the popular overworld vs nether trope that was around, BUT NO!! they introduce a new set of characters in an original setting with its own story
and having the ender dragon already be beaten and a finished arc is a breath of fresh air in my opinion
so instead they took the second(?) strongest boss, mixed it with the command block which they made stronger/more powerful than it already is and made the wither crazier than before, thats just fucking cool
the (old) order of the stone are awesome too, they took different types of mc players and made them into a group of heroes!!!! and it isnt the usual group from nowadays, like sure a warrior and an alchemist are typical but they threw in a builder, an alchemist, and griefer!!! thats fucking awesome!!!! and ivor as the alchemist isnt even the biggest fighter (because he's fucking old) which i love, they use his other characteristics as an advantage. before the ninja arc obviously
AND THE ORDER'S TEMPLE AND THE TRACKING MAAAPP!!! i love how they used and expanded on that feature
SAME WITH THE RAILWAY SYSTEM!!! TO TRAVEL LONG DISTANCES IN THE NETHER!! i wish we got more of that x(
now this might be biased cause i don't like ep2 thaaatt muchhh, though it deserved so much more when it comes to redstonia and boomtown, tho the concepts alone are really creative
only thing i can point out from ep3 is the grinder from soren's fortress, and how its just the actual mechanism to get loot and xp in game but on a larger scale. and the fact that the amulet doesnt work in the nether/end like any other tool of that sort!! small details!!!!
and this is just my opinion but soren's studies on the enderman feel like a jab at those enderman related theories from years ago xd
the far lands. i just really love that they added the farlands in ep4 was it?? and i love how they utilized the aspect of enchanting weapons, which they kept it as epic as in ep4 x(
the portal arc.. I LOVE THE PORTAL ARC. SO MUCH. it uses allot of aspects outside of mc survival like mini games and the community itself!!
like. episode 5 is literally just sky block, obviously. and it's got spawn eggs, which without the world build in the network would've been hard to implement BUT THEY STILL MANAGED TO ADD IT IN!!!
ep6 is murder mystery with some iconic mcyt. literally what more do you want!!!
ep7, pama's inspired by players who make redstone computers in the game like said here!!! thats so fucking cool!!!!
EP8 COULD'VE AND SHOULD'VE HAD SO MUCH MOREEE!!! and its inspiration is obvious too; the different mini games in mc and respawning!! i love that they added respawning in at least one episode
like the way they took elements from and outside of mc survival is so creative, especially with how they were implemented (even if sometimes they weren't accurate) and all the world build!!!!
season 2's more focused on the idea and limits of creative mode or the idea of a "god" in mc, and definitely has its fair share of world build, which is still really cool
i actually like how they went about revealing the admins and their connection to the overworld without it messing up the lore in s1 or having it come out of nowhere in a bad way!! like old OLD myth turned real trope worked out well here
also it felt like the sea temple scene was foreshadowing the aquatic update that was to come in mc at the time!!
and one thing about the sea temple, when the origins of the world and the admin were being explained, i'm pretty sure they mention how "the world was flat until the admin gave it hills and trees" and stuff, referencing both super-flat worlds and foreshadowing the bedrocking event!!!
and idk how many people actually know this but the structure block is an actual thing in mc?? i did NOT know about that till recently it's embarrassing
might just be me but i like to think that the original mobs romeo makes are also a subtle reference at mods and how people can mess around with that kinda stufff.... idk tho
from this point on i can't think of anything else in s2 that i could put in this ramble, but overall, mcsm writers and develops were fucking geniuses and i love how they put everything together ^_^ ty for any1 who read this far, and feel free to leave your own insights!!!!!
#im normal about mcsm#super normal#i think about this a bit too often#mcsm#minecraft story mode#mcsm season 1#mcsm season 2#mcsm s2#minecraft story mode season 2#rambles#special interest

Part 2 Worlds:
1 | 2 | 3 | 4
Far into the end, past the dragon guarding your world and far past the edges of the end isles, are doorways to other worlds. Doors that can take you to worlds much like your own, with the same rules and understandings. Or worlds with others like you. With contraptions, magic and creatures you've never seen before (mods). Some you can freely move between, some are blocked, hidden or require certain permissions.
But no matter how far you go or which world your in, you can always find your way.
MCSM:
The MCSM series connects to this as one of these worlds with a Hardcore preset. All the characters are actually 'players' that don't remember being such which explains why they treat death so seriously.
When Jessie and co enter the mysterious portal they are entering another world but, due to the nature of the worlds they enter, retain their memories and gear of their 'home' world. This explains why famous players like Captain Sparklez, Stampy Cat, Stacy Plays etc are also there but don't treat death as seriously. They remember the respawn mechanic (which doesn't work because the world is in Hardcore). (see part 4 for more info).

how would the hermitcraft and avm crossover happen in-universe
HEWO ⁉ I LEGIT JUST POSTED THAT- <- surprised but very happy,
ANYWAYS, yeah. so before i start let me tell you the minecraft universe in my head sometimes only makes sense to me bc i think abt things Way too much and also sometimes i dream abt how possibly the 4th + 5th dimensions would work for the eyes of a tridimensional being- basically my brain is just Like This,
so we start with this explanation, not with the common everyday minecraft, but with the minecraft from the story mode game (bear with me-)
So basically, in the first minecraft story mode after the wither storm is defeated completely, jesse and the new order of the stone go on adventures trough portals to different kinds of worlds which seem to have different generations in terms of the terrain n world And also sometimes gamerules (like how it seems in the world where jesse lives is a hardcore one, like most others they visit, while the one with the mini-games people can respawn)
and yeah, i am aware in the case of mcsm, all portals have different blocks used to get to those worlds while in avm is with only nether portals. but listen.
there's one connection between these two that would make possible the crossover in-universe (or well. in the minecraft universe in my head):
players.
in mcsm, the various mcyt that appear in the first and second season, and in avm, the kid that was playin minecraft. who second and red used the email from to return to alan's pc. So in a way the minecraft from mcyt has a connection to mcsm, and the minecraft from mcsm has a Possibility of a connection to avm
like is Literally a fine thread of a connection, but if youre insane enough (like me) it kinda makes sense, yknow
but anyways, in my head it would work smth like this:
the nether from avm seems to be like—a central point of that universe. it connects everything and everyone, so you can travel to Completely different minecraft worlds with their own rules and terrain from there. maybe is depending on where you are in that nether, like... very specific coords, or with something else added to the mix, like with the help of the command block staff and other powerful things...
the thing here is, with some luck, one of those worlds can be Also one of the hundreds that are in the portal hall in mcsm, and from there just find the one that seems to connect to the wider mcyt universe and boom. a purple stickman (which is not so stick anymore at that point, but this also has a reason dw <- head full, many thoughts) is suddenly in hermitcraft-
#SORRY THIS TOOK A BIT. MY BRAIN IS A TANGLED OF THOUGHTS 24/7 N IS HARD GETTIN THINGS OUT COHERENTLY SOMETIMES o(-(#but anyways#hope you liked my insane ramblings. hope it makes sense too honestly i have no idea lmfao. but ty for lettin me talk abt it :333#zach talks#idk if i should tag this tbh.....

What is the MCSM Rewrite Project?
It's exactly what it sounds like!
I'm making what is essentially a new version of Minecraft Story Mode. The characters will be reimagined, keeping core elements alive, but making them overall... better. I believe the original MCSM had a lot of potential, but fell flat in execution. I am attempting to rectify that, more or less, but in book format.
The Important Bit
I'm posting this on tumblr just to sort of say "Hey, I'm making this thing. I think it's really cool, and any ideas would be appreciated." So, that's that! I'm looking for some ideas. Specifically ideas for episodes 6-8.
Things I have planned and established already:
Jesse is nonbinary. It makes sense considering I'm adapting a game to a book.
The main cast are actually competent. Because there's no reason for them to act like they've never existed in this world when they've been here for forever?
Servers exist. This is most important for the second arc (Eps 5-8). I've got some information established regarding servers, but basically all that I'll say here is that they vary in game mode, how many people live there, server operators, and some of them may even be modded.
About episode six... No, I'm not doing the YouTuber cameo thing. I am using original characters for this part of the arc, specifically mine and some friends'.
What about season two? I haven't officially decided if I'm doing anything for the second season. I probably will. But for right now most of my focus is on season one. That being said, I have done some thinking on it thanks to my good friend. We'll see where it goes.
Also, custom skins are going to be a thing. Not nearly enough completely inhuman characters in this game. I've even got it planned how they create these custom skins as well.
The big threat is also different. So I sort of replaced the Wither Storm as well. The new threat is a respawned Ender Dragon, except it's much stronger and also much larger. It also tunnels the way dragons do in the actual game.
If you hadn't figured by Jesse being non-binary, this book will be very queer! I am planning to also make Jesskas (Jesse x Lukas) canon. Sorry, Jetra fans!
I think that's all the important information that I'll be putting in the pinned post here. So that being said, feel free to send me any questions, or ideas for this.
Thanks for reading and taking interest! I'd love to hear quite literally any ideas or concepts anyone may or may not have. Please, I don't bite!
I'm posting the rewrite to both AO3 and Wattpad in hopes of reaching a wider audience. I also know some people may have a preference for either site. Here's the AO3 link, and here is the Wattpad link.

I just had an angst thought. BTW this is not a request ,but more of a discussion I wanted to have with you on the subject. What if PAMA's sweetheart died? I know Aging doesn't really exist in a sense in MCSM but I don't really know how else Reader would perish and I was wondering if you could shed some light in the matter. Basically what I am asking is How would PAMA handle the concept of death ,especially when it involves its Beloved? -🤖Anon
PAMA would not know what to do with itself . . . at all. I think PAMA knows theoretically what death is, but it would not be able to handle the death of something dear to it. ESPECIALLY if you died right in front of it. PAMA would do literally anything it can to make you respawn. It wouldn't be able to process the fact that death is permanent, rather, it would see your death as a temporary absence.
I think it would send some minions across different realities to find another version of you and bring you back to it. But since the other you doesn't have the same relationship with PAMA as you did, PAMA just wouldn't know what to do.

Just LET me see freaking MCSM X Horror mods.
Pleeeease I need this for my mental health (idk how it'll help but yes).
Each group dealing with who the hell knows what? They don't.
And add there respawn without telling them too.
—
Jesse: OH MY GOD LUKAS NO-
Lukas was killed by Siren Head.
Jesse: Lukas! Bud..
Three thousand years later.
Jesse: Okay, so in case we want this trap to-
Lukas: Hey guys.
The gang screams.
Jesse: Lukas?! I- we thought you died!
Lukas: I did, but, apparently there's a respawn system, just like the one in Old Builders' games, soo..
Jesse:
Lukas: I also died like two more times trying to get here and each time I respawned in absolutely random place, so if we lost anyone else — I have no idea, where they are.
—
So fucking hilarious.

Some things that were just casual plot points in the MCSM series:
A major character dies at the end of the first season, and the loot that they dropped is hung on an item frame to remember them by.
There is a dramatic moment where you think your best friend dies, only for them to respawn later.
There is an entire episode centered around a redstone computer going crazy and brainwashing people.
You literally travel to the edge of reality (the farlands).
The entire first season revolves around Minecraft characters knowing the eldritch horrors and reality bending nature of what a command block is.
An enemy defeats you by hitting you with a splash potion of slowness.
You have to escape zombies by building a slime block piston flying machine.
The second half of the first season has an entire arc where you are literally server hopping to different Minecraft worlds.
There is an extensive chase sequence inside a mob grinder.
You survive a night in the woods by building a dirt hut.
There is the aforementioned murder mystery episode where famous YouTubers are killed off.
The main antagonist of Season 2 is literally an admin.
A character steals your identity by changing their skin.
You encounter a skyblock island and the kingdom that was created on it, and all of the materials used to make the island are materials you can only get during a skyblock challenge.
Swords are used as blunt objects because they’re blocky and can’t cut anything.
Characters frequently just use whatever random loot they’ve collected in their inventory to craft new things to solve puzzles and problems.
When a character dies, they leave their loot behind.
A giant hole to hell is dealt with by covering it up with dirt blocks and putting up a sign that tells people not to dig there.
You can craft an enchanted diamond hoe to defeat the final boss with.
There’s a sequence where you need to find 9 slime balls so you can craft a slime block.
Items are small and or flat, until they are placed down, and this is just treated as how things are in this world.
You literally climb to an island in the sky by jumping up and placing a block below you.
Trapped in a room with no exit, and with no tools, your characters punch the stone floor with their bare hands to dig their way out.
Zombies, Spiders, and Creepers just spawn in the darkness. They don’t come from places you’d expect them to, like from the ground or trees, they just APPEAR from the darkness like in the game.
You play Spleef.
There is an entire town of griefers who just blow each other up and destroy everything they find.
To get into an enemy base you fly through the sky using fireworks rockets.
There’s an extended chase sequence where you escape endermen by pouring water on the floor.
And probably the best one: after being told to craft a sword with wood and stone, you can instead craft a lever in the first episode and it will become useful in the 4th episode, skipping a puzzle entirely.
the thing about minecraft story mode is that, like. it’s made by telltale, and telltale games always get so dark and dramatic and shit but also it’s? minecraft?? like there’s this extremely cinematic scene where you make the choice to send the guy you’re fighting over the edge of a floating island to his possible death, all the while he’s on his knees begging for your mercy, and the island burns in the background behind you due to his actions, but like. it’s minecraft. they’re minecraft characters. and in literally the next episode of the game you take part in a youtube murder mystery

How do skins work in MCSM? We see that in EP8 people respawn with their clothes on (presumably part of their skin) but armor and other accessories are lost. Does this mean their clothes are just welded to their bodies and are unable to be taken off?? People clearly change outfits in the series so maybe the old builders' respawning system takes the clothing on their person into account? Or it somehow sucks their clothes into a convenient storage bin that the butt ass naked newly respawned person can then put on in a discreet corner?
